Curious About Hybrid Cars?Simple, you say. But what kind of car? Have you thought about trying a hybrid? Everyone is talking about hybrid cars today. They come in all colors, are stylish, and will save you money. When you think of all these positive reasons, how can you not jump in the old gas guzzler and rush right down to the dealership to trade it in on your favorite hybrid? While some may indeed do just that, you may want to learn a little bit about these vehicles first. Just what makes these hybrids tick? A car that meets the term ‘hybrid’ can run on electricity. It uses a combination of a traditional propulsion system and an energy storage system that is rechargeable. These two systems work together, giving you more fuel economy than using only gasoline in the old gas guzzler. Unlike traditional electric vehicles that work on batteries, the batteries in hybrids are not charged by an outside source. In a new innovation, a kinetic energy that is generated by regenerative braking creates the charge. Some hybrid vehicles even have their own combustion engine that generates electricity by spinning a generator. Spinning does one of two things: recharges the battery, or gives direct power to the electric motor. This is then used to drive the car. Because this gas-saving car generates its own electricity, it is not the same as a car that runs on batteries. You don’t have to wait as your car charges up in the garage, and you don’t have additional electricity on your power bill. Just climb in the car and drive. There have been several electrical cars made in the past. But today’s hybrid vehicles outperform these other cars by far. They’re larger, sleeker, and don’t have to plug into your electricity. Some call these hybrids the vehicle of the future because it can power itself and can save fuel. Some carmakers are staking their reputations on it, and many car owners agree. Hybrid cars are becoming increasingly popular as new models hit the market every year. So, trade in the old gas guzzler for a sleek, stylish hybrid that will look good tooling around town. Or, maybe you are just tired of handing over all your hard-earned cash to the gas stations. Either way, you have good reasons to think about buying a hybrid vehicle. Go on. Make that trip to the dealership. It could be the best decision you ever made. Comments |
